POSITION TITLE:       Communications & Development Associate

BASED IN:                   Nicaragua

REPORTS TO:             Director of US Operations, El Porvenir

TRAVEL:                      25%

 

The goal of this position is to raise funds for El Porvenir’s programs through communications and fundraising. A primary focus is on compelling storytelling to an international audience; additionally, the Communications & Development Associate (CDA) supports fundraising campaigns and events. The CDA works collaboratively with the Communications Team as well as with direct project staff. The CDA will spend approximately 25% of their time in the rural municipalities where El Porvenir works.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Communications:

  • Write unique, compelling beneficiary/project stories for reports, newsletters, emails, and social media

  • Take photos and videos consistent with our messaging to showcase program success and share our story with supporters

  • Prepare and execute annual and monthly plans for developing communications material

  • Organize El Porvenir’s videos and photos

  • Promote Service Trips and work with returned participants

  • Regularly contribute information to digital/print newsletters & social media

 

Fundraising:

  • Execute fundraising strategies to meet goals in coordination with the Communications Team

  • Regularly correspond with supporters via phone, email, event invitations, special project tours, presentations, and more

  • Strengthen and expand our network of Friends of El Porvenir groups

  • Strengthen and expand relationships with individuals, faith communities, and service clubs for potential work trip groups

  • Communicate monthly with faith community supporters

  • Support the donor thank you process

  • Support the planning, coordinating, and implementation of special events

  • Support the Communications Team to ensure consistent, quality marketing and materials to better tell our story

  • Phone calls: make thank you and outreach calls

 

Administrative:

  • Respond to all messages, emails, and phone calls promptly

  • Participate in Communications Team annual planning

  • Provide bimonthly activity reports to the Director of US Operations

  • Other duties as needed

 

Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish

  • Easily builds trust-based relationships with all types of people

  • Comfortable traveling in rural Nicaragua

  • Competency with Office programs and Canva

  • Experience with Salesforce preferred

  • Experience with photography

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Ability to work well with remote, international team members

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive in urban and rural areas preferred

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Adaptable

  • Strong, proactive communications skills

  • Be curious, creative, and innovative about WASH
