POSITION TITLE:  Grant Writer (30 hour/week position)                BASED IN:  Broomfield, Colorado or remote

REPORTS TO:  Director of US Operations, El Porvenir                    TRAVEL:  Up to 10%

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position is part of a small U.S. team responsible for fund development. The primary responsibility is to raise funds for El Porvenir’s programs through grant writing. Specifically, this position is responsible for writing proposals to foundation, corporations, and faith communities for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects as well as submitting timely and accurate reports for existing grant funded projects. We are looking for an experienced, skilled writer able to compellingly tell our story to develop and deepen relationships with funders.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals/reports and budgets/financial reports to foundation, faith community, and corporate sources.

  • Perform prospect research to evaluate prospects for LOI/grant submission.

  • Work with our Nica-based Finance Director to provide written and financial reports to funders on current grant programs.

  • Build relationships with Nicaraguan staff to support information sharing and timely achievement of deadlines.

  • Communicate proactively with Nicaraguan and U.S. staff.

  • Comply with all grant and report deadlines as required.

  • Provide stewardship to current funders with regular written updates.

  • Maintain current records in Salesforce, including grant tracking and reporting.

  • Track relevant program/country statistics relevant to our programs.

  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.

Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Strong written communication skills: writes clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals

  • Strong editing skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Meets deadlines

  • Works independently

  • Experience with diverse fundraising information sources

  • Competency with Office programs, particularly Word and Excel

  • Previous experience with Salesforce appreciated

  • Experience with successful proposal writing

  • Experience with a broad array of fundraising techniques and strategies

  • Experience and familiarity with research techniques for prospect research

  • Strong contributor in team environments

  • Proactively able to build bridges with remote team members (Nicaragua and U.S.)

  • Leader of self and in partnership with a team

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of experience with successful grant writing

  • Spanish proficiency

  • Proven success with international nonprofit fundraising

  • Proven success in deadline-driven environments

  • Handles multiple projects simultaneously

  • Works well in a diverse team environment

  • Meets income goals

Compensation:

Salary range: $35,500-42,500 (30 hours/week), depending on experience
